 uiem is a landmark in the Western canon. Left unfinished at the time of th
 e composer’s death\, it embodies the fusion of the contrapuntal style as
 sociated with Catholic religious music\, operatic drama\, and late Classic
 al orchestral writing. The work was so influential that it became an integ
 ral part of musical practice in Catholic countries from the 19th century o
 nwards. This concert features the version of this Requiem preserved at the
  Évora Cathedral.
