Collateral Damage
A set of photographs brought together for the first time in the form of an Exhibition / Art Installation that seeks, through the capture / immobility of time, to remind us that indifference enhances the trivialisation of evil. It focuses on the specific case of the armed conflict that, since October 2023, has plagued the Palestinian people of the Gaza Strip, an extreme example of how the daily massacre of innocent victims becomes a ‘normality’. By the end of February 2024, the death toll had already surpassed thirty thousand, in an incessant countdown with no end in sight.

Provided by Agence France Presse, the world's oldest news agency, following a careful and exclusive selection of the work of several of its photojournalists who have been following the conflict from the outset, the photos will remain at the Lamas Museum for at least three months. This is a joint organisation between the institution and Basqueiro - Associação Cultural, following on from a partnership between the parties which, among many other collaborations, has included the cycle of exhibitions that have been presented to the public uninterruptedly since 2021 in the space once known as the Cork Room. The motto remains the same: to use art not only as a mere means of entertaining the senses, but also as a vehicle for raising awareness and debating ideas on the unavoidable issues of our time.
