 Outorgaram-se forais desde antes da independência de Portugal\, ora por r
 azões de defesa\, ora para incentivar o povoamento\, ora para reorganizar
  o território. Séculos passados\, no final do reinado de D. João II\, a
 volumam-se queixas que levariam a uma profunda reforma dos forais levada a
  cabo por D. Manuel I. O foral da Maia está entre os muitos que D. Manuel
  concedeu.\n\nMás información\n&nbsp\; Neste ano em que se assinalam os 
 500 anos da outorga do foral da Maia\, entende a C&acirc\;mara Municipal d
 isponibilizar ao p&uacute\;blico uma exposi&ccedil\;&atilde\;o de longa du
 ra&ccedil\;&atilde\;o (at&eacute\; 2021) sobre esta tem&aacute\;tica. Esta
  exposi&ccedil\;&atilde\;o pretende levar o visitante numa viagem no tempo
 \, desde o s&eacute\;culo XI at&eacute\; ao s&eacute\;culo XVI\, contando 
 a hist&oacute\;ria dos forais e\, particularmente\, do foral da Maia\, mas
  tamb&eacute\;m a hist&oacute\;ria do territ&oacute\;rio maiato e das suas
  gentes.\n\n\nA city&rsquo\;s charter is definitely one of the most import
 ant documents to define the identity of a territory.\nSeveral city&rsquo\;
 s charters were granted before Portugal became independent\, either to sup
 port the territories&rsquo\; defence\, or to enhance the population\, or e
 ven to reorganize the territory. Many centuries after\, by the end of the 
 reign of D. Jo&atilde\;o II\, the many complaints of the people led to a d
 eep reformation of the city&rsquo\;s charters conducted by D. Manuel I. Th
 e Maia city&rsquo\;s charter is amongst those conceded by D. Manuel.\nIn t
 his year celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Maia city&rsquo\;s chart
 er\, the City Council is presenting a long exhibition (open until 2021) on
  this theme. This exhibition will guide visitors through a journey in time
 \, from the 11th to the 16th century\, illustrating the history of city&rs
 quo\;s charters\, in general\, and the Maia city&rsquo\;s charter\, in par
 ticular\, as well as of the Maia territory and its people.\n\nUn foral es\

  identidad de un territorio.\nHay forales otorgados antes de la independen
 cia de Portugal\, ya sea por motivos de defensa\, para incentivar el pobla
 miento\, o para reorganizar el territorio. Despu&eacute\;s de algunos sigl
 os\, al final del reinado de D. Jo&atilde\;o II\, las quejas abultadas lle
 van a una profunda reforma de los forales hecha por D. Manuel I. El foral 
 de Maia es uno de los muchos que fueron concedidos por D. Manuel.\nEn este
  a&ntilde\;o en &eacute\;l que se se&ntilde\;alan los 500 a&ntilde\;os del
  otorgamiento del foral de Maia\, el Ayuntamiento ha decidido ofrecer al p
 &uacute\;blico una exposici&oacute\;n de larga duraci&oacute\;n (hasta 202
 1) sobre esta tem&aacute\;tica. Esta exposici&oacute\;n pretende conducir 
 el visitante a trav&eacute\;s de un viaje en el tiempo\, del siglo XI al s
 iglo XVI\, contando la historia de los forales y\, en particular\, del for
 al de Maia\, adem&aacute\;s de la historia del territorio de Maia y de su 
 gente.
