The Ashes Museum occupies a room designed by Engineer Eça Guimarães, attached to the Church of the former Convent of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, today better known as the Church of São Francisco.
The exhibition is organised around a central piece – the Stigmatization of St. Francis – around which are all the other images that embody religious devotion. The upper gallery houses the paraments and church equipment and all the documentation.
