Eng. António de Almeida was born on 5-11-1891 and died on 9-10-1968. In his will, he established a foundation bearing his name with artistic, educational and charitable purposes. The Eng. António de Almeida Foundation, which was officially recognised on 5-5-1969, has a Museum where the various pieces collected by the founder are gathered: furniture, jewellery, textiles, porcelain, paintings, watchmaking and coins, the latter constituting an important collection made up of gold pieces of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, French and Portuguese origin.

It carries out intense cultural activity, especially in the areas of art and education; it holds colloquia, conferences, exhibitions and music recitals; it publishes and supports magazines and books; it promotes and supports activities. Free admission to the Museum-House, subject to booking.
