Opened on 2 April 1996 and run by Matosinhos City Council, the Quinta de Santiago Museum's mission is to preserve and promote the historical memory of Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira through art. The building, dating from the late 19th century, was designed by Italian architect Nicola Bigaglia as the residence of the Santiago de Carvalho e Sousa family and is now an important testimony to the urban and social transformations of the region. 15:00-18:00 – Free admission to the Quinta de Santiago Museum and Casa do Bosque (Giant "Cascade") At the museum, visitors can explore the two museum floors and visit the exhibition "Primordial Art: African Ethnography Collections", currently on display, as well as the exhibition “Caractère”, by the French artist Mab.ko, opening in that same day. At Casa do Bosque, they can visit the Giant "Cascade", a recreation of the early 20th-century Leça by José Moreira.
