More info
Located in Lugar do Monte, in the parish of Paramos, municipality of Espinho, the Ovil Settlement Archaeological Site is an Iron Age settlement dating back to the late 4th or early 3rd century BC. The settlement developed into residential areas composed of several schist stone structures, with circular houses, sometimes with a vestibule flanking the entrance. The study of amphorae has made it possible to document the abandonment of the settlement during the Romanisation of the region in the early 1st century AD. In 1836, the Castelo Paper Mill was built, which made use of the waterpower of the Riomaior Stream. In addition to the ruins of the old factory, we can see the drying shed, a rural house and a watermill. 15:00 - Guided tour of the Archaeological Site and the ruins of the old paper mill Free admission Sounds in Heritage Sites’ full programme at https://iporto.amp.pt/en/eventos/sounds-in-heritage-sites-2025/
