The exhibition "Ghosts in Painting" by Bete Gouveia opens with a series of works that explore the persistent presence of hidden images, emotional memories and traces of processes that insist on remaining on the pictorial surface. Starting from pentimenti, overlapping layers and almost imperceptible intervals, the artist transforms what should have disappeared into a visual event, summoning absences, hesitations and traumatic marks as structural elements of painting.
