Hamlet
Hamlet is, after the Bible, the work that has generated the most literature. Many find in it “a spacious mirror” in which everyone is confronted with their own reflection. The story of the Prince of Denmark is the story of our vacillation in the face of that primordial question: Who am I? Consciousness/action, past/present, to be/not to be are the poles where everything is played out. Hamlet is Western literature's archetype of the human conscience. The desire for revenge, deception and duplication (the play within the play) do not hide the emptiness that corrodes the Prince.
