The Vila Nova de Gaia Biological Park was the first permanent centre for Environmental Education in the country. It covers a 35 ha green area that houses hundreds of plant and animal species in the wild, offering visitors a 3 km long exploration path. The Biological Park aims at raising visitors’ awareness of the region’s landscape, including all its elements (flora, fauna, climate, rural architecture, practices and customs, hydrography, etc.) and of the contrast between that agroforestry landscape, preserved in the Park, and the surrounding urban landscape.
