Treasures from the Porto Museum’s Numismatic Collection
The exhibition presents some of the treasures from the Numismatic Collection of the Porto Museum, highlighting emblematic, rare and valuable coins, some of which are unique, such as the bracteate of Syracuse, the siliqua of Rechiarius, the escudo of Afonso V and the justo of João II. Several coins and medals from different periods originate from the medal collection assembled by João Francisco Allen (1781–1848), a prominent merchant from the city of Porto who is believed to have participated in the resistance against the French occupation.
