The TNSJ has invited stage director, scenographer and visual artist Marta Pazos, a core figure of contemporary Spanish theatre, to revive the triumphal legacy of Gil Vicente’s Auto da Barca do Inferno (1517), a mainstay of Portuguese stage repertoire, more than 500 years young. For this visitation of Vicentine angels and demons, the artist has resorted to dance and the visual arts, offering us a colourful and luminous spectacle, a feast for the senses that is capable of rekindling all the popular potency of the play.
