A man steals a loaf of bread to feed his family. For this crime, he spends 19 years in prison, condemned to hard labour in the galleys. This is the starting point of one of the greatest classics of world literature and the story that inspired the production premiered by Compagnie Karyatides in 2014, which has since been staged over 700 times. In this epic adaptation of Les Misérables for object theatre, Jean Valjean, Cosette, and the other timeless characters from the novel by Victor Hugo (1802-85) are portrayed by hundreds of clay and wooden figurines, found by chance at antique markets.
