It is a comic pastoral ballet about Lise, a young woman in love with the peasant Colas, whose mother, the widow Simone, tries to thwart the romance, wishing to marry her off to Alain, the wealthy but foolish son of a winegrower. Through tricks and comical situations, Lise and Colas outwit her vigilance, ultimately winning her mother’s approval.
