In "Pulcinella", operatic vocals, lyricism and counterpoint blend within an orchestral tapestry that revisits the "style galant". Tchaikovsky’s romantic ballets were so successful that they have been reinterpreted by musicians with very different approaches. The composers Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn revolutionised the fabric of jazz. In this concert, we revisit the Christmas story of "The Nutcracker", a ballet in which Christmas, toys and magic merge into a narrative that is always moving and marked by the orchestral syncopations of jazz.
