Every year, on St John's Day, Sobrado revives an unusual tradition with a big masquerade. It’s called the “Bugiada” and “Mouriscada” Festival, based on a legend and taking us back to the time when the Moors occupied the area. Between dances, rituals and various enthusiastic performances, the “Bugios” (Christians) and “Mourisqueiros” (Moors) compete for a miraculous image of St. John the Baptist. The exuberantly dressed participants add colour, rhythm and fun to the festivities. In honour of the saint, there are also shows and lots of fireworks in the days leading up to 24 June.
