The Suggia cello concerts celebrate the memory of the distinguished Porto-born cellist Guilhermina Suggia, keeping alive Porto’s connection with her legacy. The aim is to honour the memory of one of the most important female figures in the history of Portuguese music – and indeed the world – whose pioneering career played a decisive role in paving the way for future generations of cellists. The concerts in the series are performed on the Montagnana Suggia cello, an instrument that belonged to the cellist and is currently kept by the Porto Museum.
