Portuguese choreographer Vasco Wellemkamp is attracted by the nostalgic image of a fado born on the high seas, but what seduces him as a choreographer is, above all, the emotion and dramatic force with which fado has reached the present day, especially in the voice of Amália Rodrigues. AmarAmália (To Love Amália) is the title of the choreography he created based on this fascination, a sincere tribute to Amália, who universalised fado and became a source of national pride.
