The Póvoa de Varzim International Music Festival (FIMPV) was founded in July 1979 with the aim of promoting the region through music. From the outset, it has focused on inviting internationally renowned artists, showcasing the finest Portuguese musicians and supporting young talent. Over the years, it has expanded its programme to include early music and contemporary music, whilst also encouraging the creation of new works by Portuguese composers. The Festival has become a cultural benchmark in Portugal, contributing to the decentralisation of the arts and the development of new audiences.
