The Rye Cycle in Regoufe
Regoufe is a village of Covêlo de Paivó e Janarde. Although historically known for its mining past, Regoufe's livelihood strategies have always been based on agriculture and cattle breeding. However, living in this mountain meant facing harsh seasons, poor soils, intense work and isolation. Therefore, the inhabitants adapted their way of life to the landscape, creating practices and cycles passed down through generations. Among these practices, rye cultivation was essential. Sown in poor soils, it provided grain for feeding and straw for livestock, construction, fertilization, and domestic uses.
